Who We Are
The Central Florida Prescribed Fire Council (CFPFC) is a group composed of interagency wildland firefighters and land managers from all over the central Florida area who annually come together to share experiences, knowledge, and best practices that encourage safety and growth in the prescribed fire community. Members of CFPFC include individuals from Florida Forest Service, US Forest Service, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, Florida Park Service, Brevard County, Flagler County, Sandpine Alliance International, St Johns River Water Management District, The Nature Conservancy, University of Central Florida, University of Florida, Southern Fire Exchange, and private land owners and contractors.
What We Do
CFPFC brings members of the fire community together to encourage responsible prescribed fire activities and disseminate information about prescribed fire to those involved with prescribed fire as well as to anyone who would like to learn more about prescribed fire. Florida land managers learn and discuss management strategies to restore and maintain the ecological integrity of our land. This education assists in reducing liabilities and fosters the best management practices possible that benefit Florida’s fire dependent ecosystems. Prescribed fire is a valuable land management tool and it is very important that those in the fire community work together cohesively and are knowledgeable of its proper use.
When We Meet
The CFPFC steering committee meets annually for planning purposes every spring. The CFPFC member and visitor meeting occurs annually on the first Friday of every October. March 2020 has brought us all challenges for safely gathering and trainings so the first ever virtual meeting was held online in October 2020 and 2021. We will continue to offer this mode of blended training in the future as well planning to have the 2022 in-person meeting back in Kissimmee, FL at the Osceola UF-IFAS conference building located next to the Spurs Rodeo.
The next annual meeting will be held both in-person and online (via Zoom) on Friday October 7, 2022.
Note to Florida Certified Burners: Attending this meeting will meet the FFS education requirements needed to maintain your certification. You must register individually and sign in to the meeting using your unique link and complete the survey to receive credit for attendance.
Society of American Foresters Education Credits (4 CEUs) can be rewarded for those that attend the annual CFPFC’s fire conference as well.
What to Expect
Possibly hundreds of land managers and wildland firefighters coming together to meet both (face to face) and virtually to discuss current events, trends, products, and practices occurring in the Florida’s fire community. Keynote Speakers, raffles, light refreshments, food, and vendor demonstrations will keep you educated, engaged and excited about Florida prescribed fire! Let’s get together and share our stories and experiences to preserve our long tradition of prescribed burning in Central Florida.
If you would like to become one of the next vendors by supporting our organization, and share/demonstrate your own wildland fire/ prescribed fire and land management services and products, please contact David Hogrefe at firstname.lastname@example.org. We are actively looking for more sponsors that want to participate at our next annual fire conference.
