Who We Are

The Central Florida Prescribed Fire Council (CFPFC) is a group composed of interagency wildland firefighters and land managers from all over the central Florida area who annually come together to share experiences, knowledge, and best practices that encourage safety and growth in the prescribed fire community. Members of CFPFC include individuals from Florida Forest Service, US Forest Service, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, Florida Park Service, Brevard County, Flagler County, Sandpine Alliance International, St Johns River Water Management District, The Nature Conservancy, University of Central Florida, University of Florida, Southern Fire Exchange, and private land owners and contractors.

What We Do

This education assists in reducing liabilities and fosters the best management practices possible that benefit Florida’s fire dependent ecosystems. Prescribed fire is a valuable land management tool and it is very important that those in the fire community work together cohesively and are knowledgeable of its proper use.

When We Meet

The Central Florida PFC steering committee meets annually for planning purposes every spring. The Central Florida PFC Annual Meeting, open to members and visitors alike, is held on the first Friday of every October. COVID brought us all challenges for safe gatherings and trainings so the first ever virtual meeting was held online in October 2020 and again in 2021. The 2022 Annual Meeting will be hosted virtually and in-person meeting back in Kissimmee, FL at the Osceola UF-IFAS conference building located next to the Spurs Rodeo on Friday October 7, 2022.

Note to Florida Certified Burners: Attending this meeting will meet the FL Forest Service education requirements needed to maintain your prescribed burn manager certification. Society of American Foresters (SAF) Continuing Forestry Education (CFE) Credits can also be rewarded for those that attend the Annual Meeting. To receive credit, register individually and indicate on the registration form which credit[s] that you are interested in receiving.

What to Expect at the Annual Meeting

Over 100 land managers and wildland firefighters come together to meet both face-to-face and virtually to discuss current events, trends, products, and practices occurring in the Florida’s fire community. Keynote Speakers, raffles, light refreshments, food, and vendor demonstrations will keep you educated, engaged and excited about Florida prescribed fire! Let’s get together and share our stories and experiences to preserve our long tradition of prescribed burning in Central Florida.
